Mesmerising Tulip
Discover Mesmerising Tulip
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, popularly known as the Tulip Garden of Srinagar, is one of the most iconic attractions of Kashmir and a major highlight of the region’s spring season. Nestled at the foothills of the Zabarwan Range, the garden stretches across a vast area of terraced slopes overlooking the serene Dal Lake, creating a breathtaking natural backdrop of mountains, water, and sky.
Established in 2007, the garden was developed with the aim of promoting tourism and floriculture in the Kashmir Valley. Today, it is recognized as the largest tulip garden in Asia, spanning nearly 30 hectares. The landscape is carefully designed into seven terraced levels, allowing visitors to walk through cascading rows of flowers while enjoying panoramic views of Srinagar.
Every spring, usually between late March and April, the garden comes alive with millions of tulips blooming simultaneously. These tulips are cultivated in dozens of varieties, showcasing an extraordinary spectrum of colors—reds, yellows, pinks, purples, whites, and even multicolored patterns. Alongside tulips, the garden also features other spring flowers such as daffodils, hyacinths, ranunculus, and muscari, adding depth and variety to the floral display.
A major attraction of the garden is the Annual Tulip Festival, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir tourism department. The festival celebrates the arrival of spring with cultural programs, traditional Kashmiri music and dance, handicraft exhibitions, and local cuisine, offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage.
With its vibrant floral carpets, crisp mountain air, and stunning views, the Tulip Garden is not just a botanical site but a symbol of Kashmir’s natural beauty. It attracts tourists, photographers, nature lovers, and botanists from across India and around the world, making it a must-visit destination during the spring season in Srinagar. 🌷
